This months book was ‘Standing on my knees’ by Jeff Lucas – a book on prayer. Jeff introduced the subject by looking at some of the challenges we can face when we start to get serious about prayer, and how some books on prayer can leave us feeling more discouraged than when we started due to the authors’ apparent supernatural anointing for this spiritual discipline.
He disarms us by describing his own weakness in this over the years in an amusing and lighthearted way.
The main thrust of the book is to offer a wealth of practical suggestions to help Christians of all ages and stages to develop a stronger one on one relationship with the Almighty.
The whole group agreed that this was very readable, with helpful advice which we felt was realistic and achievable – even given our busy lives.
The next book we will be reading is ‘Thank God it’s Monday’ by Mark Greene – “THE textbook for equipping us to live out our faith during the week”, Chris Dinsdale.
The book for Advent is ‘Real God in the Real World’ by Trystan Owain Hughes, with daily readings for advent.
The next meeting of Book Club will be on Wednesday 22nd January, 6-7pm. Please feel free to join us for an evening of interesting discussion and debate.
