Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime. Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” (John 4:6,7 NLT)
Jesus models a classic workplace interaction we can all identify with: Are you making a tea…? Are those your biscuits? Have you ever wondered why Jesus asked this woman for a drink? Probably because he was tired and thirsty!
But still, this was a step towards her, breaking cultural norms and inviting further conversation. If he never reached out with a simple question, neither she, nor the rest of her village would never have been aware that the Messiah had been walking past. Are there people in your office who you know, but you don’t know anything about?
Here are some questions which may help:
Do I have any social conversations with colleagues?
Do I know their worldview & what they think about life?
What do I need to change in order to create space to connect with people?
