Connecting with others and creating community in my Birmingham workplace

How can we be an effective Christian presence in our own workplace in Birmingham? How can we listen to and connect effectively with colleagues, customers or clients as we live out our Christian calling at work?

PLEASE NOTE: This is a three-session in person course and participants are asked to come to all three sessions. 

What? When?

“ChaplaincyHere” is a Biblically focused three-session course: participants are asked to sign up to come to all three sessions.  It will run from 6-7:30pm on three Tuesdays after work, spaced through the Spring:

• Tuesday 3 March 2026 SESSION 1: LISTENING TO MY OWN WORK – Recognising that our work is caught up in God’s mission of renewal and re-creation, shaping connected and collaborative communities.
• Tuesday 31 March 2026 SESSION 2: LISTENING TO OTHERS AT WORK – Recognising that Jesus walks with us, as we engage more deeply in conversations with others at work.
• Tuesday 28 April 2026 SESSION 3: LISTENING TO GOD, CONNECTING FAITH, WORK & LIFE – Focusing on DrawBreath conversations within our ChaplaincyPlus network, exploring:
  • The invitation to have a DrawBreath conversation to connect with your own work, faith and life; and
  • The DrawBreath Listening Team, drawn from the ChaplaincyPlus network, considering whether you feel called to explore further the possibility of joining this Team.

Where?

Our sessions are being offered in person (only) at our ChaplaincyPlus office, 167 Newhall Street, Birmingham B3 1SW. The three-session course offers an opportunity to come together with other Christians across the ChaplaincyPlus network, supporting each other to grown and live out our faith in the workplace.

Who?

The course is offered to everyone in our ChaplaincyPlus network.  It will be facilitated by:

• Sarah Thorpe, DrawBreath Listening Coordinator; and
• Maxine Chamberlain, DrawBreath Listener and member of our ChaplaincyPlus network.

Our material is tailored to our ChaplaincyPlus context across our workplaces in Birmingham, drawing on the first two sessions of the Methodist Church’s “Chaplaincy Everywhere” course. We acknowledge with gratitude the gift of this small-group resource, generously offered online, and express our thanks to The Methodist Church.
