Meet for an individual conversation with someone from the ChaplaincyPlus network, in Birmingham city centre or online.
DrawBreath conversations provide an opportunity to step back briefly from the busy day to day, to refresh your perspectives and energies, and give space to notice the reality of God at work in your ordinary working life. These conversations are available to people working in Birmingham; Christians of all denominations, and people of all faiths and none.
Meet with a DrawBreath Listener, someone from the ChaplaincyPlus network who is rooted and grounded in their own Christian faith, in a supportive and judgement-free space, at a time and place that fits around the demands of your working day.
Caring about the safety and wellbeing of everyone, DrawBreath conversations are offered in accordance with ChaplaincyPlus’s Safeguarding Policy.
Contact us to arrange a DrawBreath conversation, focusing on work, faith and life. Conversations are available in Birmingham city centre or online.
Sarah Thorpe has been part of the ChaplaincyPlus team since 2014. She was part of the network for many years before that, when she worked in city centre law firms, in professional support and central management team roles. She valued deep listening, through ChaplaincyPlus and beyond, in navigating the opportunities and challenges of work, family, faith and life over the years – and is passionate about now offering this same space for others.
Mike Hibbs has been an employment law partner with Shakespeare Martineau (and its predecessors) for all his working life, but now works as a Consultant, advising the firm on employment law issues. Mike has been associated with ChaplaincyPlus since its foundation in 2003 and has benefitted personally in a myriad of ways from ChaplaincyPlus conversations over the years. Now he is delighted to offer a listening ear and to help others draw breath in the midst of their busy working week.
Jenny Shone is a solicitor with Irwin Mitchell in Birmingham. She has worked for many firms throughout the Midlands during her career but ChaplaincyPlus has been a constant support and inspiration in her professional life throughout that time. She now welcomes the opportunity to give something back to the charity’s work and to provide a listening ear to fellow professionals as part of the DrawBreath initiative.
In the autumn months, we offer an annual Retreat in Daily Working Life in collaboration with Manresa Link. The Retreat space offers the opportunity to pause and take stock, committing to daily private prayer for six weeks, working with a prayer companion and fitting within the ordinary rhythm of life.
The retreat follows an Ignatian format, encouraging participants to use prayer styles that were developed by Ignatius of Loyola in the sixteenth century. These styles are Bible-based and Christ-centred: they help you to explore how God is speaking to YOU through Scripture.
