Last Tuesday, Nigel compared Advent with gestation – a period of pregnant waiting. We are looking ahead to new birth, for new life coming into world.
This Advent-Life offers me a sure hope that a Saviour is coming. Not a theoretical saviour but a wise, powerful, loving and humble saviour who cares about the nitty gritty details about our lives. The office politics, clients, employees, budgets, targets, home:work harmony, our stresses, fears, and the secret thoughts we all carry.
As I step into Advent what areas of my life do I need to invite a saviour to come into? What about you? What ‘Good Gifts’ can we ask of the Father this Christmas.
“7 Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you. 8 Everyone who asks will receive. Everyone who searches will find. And the door will be opened for everyone who knocks. 9 Would any of you give your hungry child a stone, if the child asked for some bread? 10 Would you give your child a snake if the child asked for a fish? 11 As bad as you are, you still know how to give good gifts to your children. But your heavenly Father is even more ready to give good things to people who ask.”
